Thursday, July 31, 2008. It is the last day for research and harvesting black summer truffle. From tomorrow is prohibited. In the morning I am at work. I'll be back for lunch. I look in the eyes Filù. It seems understands that the opportunity is not to lose. Agreed, the work can wait.
I prepare, loading the dog and go. Leaving for forest and fresh air.
Same hot and sultry day, even as it is 4 hours p.m.. The dog part strong but over time shorten the step. He seems not the same dog, accustomed to lengthen the search. But it is a good thing because in this way beats duty to the ground.
The “pastura” is full of holes, a sign that the post is well attended. The findings is good but the truffle does not have a good size. The dog works very well and I impress in my mind these moments, as the reopening of hunting season will be for the estimeed white truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico). And this is another film. I will dream harvesting more than 1 kg, as is the case for black summer. But just one good white truffle found will made a good day. Yes, because there is no comparison between the estimeed white truffle and black summer. Quality, smell, satisfaction, are at a level much higher. You must try to believe. Unfortunately, the estimeed white is very much limited and subject to an obsessive search.
But coming to us. I conclude my usual round in 2 / 3 hours and the findings are good. Filù has done no less than 40/50 holes (total 1,3 kg), including small and medium-sized truffles. The best truffle is 155 grams weight, that is the biggest truffle that I found in my truffler career.
